Alibaba Pictures to invest in Kim Soo Hyun’s new film ‘REAL’
Keyeast Entertainment has announced that the film division of Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group, Alibaba Pictures, has inked an agreement on October 3rd, to invest in Kim Soo-hyun’s upcoming film ‘REAL’ (director: Lee Jung Sub), while acquiring the film distribution rights for the Chinese market.
The agreement was apparently signed during the recent ’20th Busan International Film Festival,’ and was testament to the outside world’s expectations of the film ‘REAL’ as well as Kim Soo Hyun.
Keyeast expressed, “The agreement reflects the expectations of the outside world for Kim Soo Hyun who gained much love from viewers within and outside of Korea, through his dramas ‘You Who Came from The Stars’ and ‘The Producers,’ as well as the overall expectations of ‘REAL.’ Alibaba Pictures will not only reap profits from their film investment, but also gain distribution rights within the Chinese market.” Alibaba Pictures is the film production and investment company set up by Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group, and their first investment project was for recent Hollywood blockbuster ‘Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation’ which was headlined by Tom Cruise. ‘REAL’ is a noir action dark film that tells the story of talented troubleshooter named Jang Tae Young who solves everything that’s requested from the underworld until one day where he is confronted by an investigative reporter. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year.
