I've talked about him in the past, but for those of you who are fans of photography, painting and art, you can now follow @soul.criminal on Instagram (and his new website)! Yayyyyy good instagram making you you praise praise! It's about time. Allan has been my friend for many years, we met back in Boston when I was a gogo dancer (not a stripper, I worked in bars and nightclubs, someday people will finally get that straight lol) and I worked for a company that would book us gigs. Allan was part of that company and his job was to take pictures of the girls to put on their website. These started off as very basic, simply to get booked for work, but something magical happened. Allan and I became really great friends. This is the best way I can describe it: Allan is the true definition of an artist. So deeply inspired, often misunderstood, and at the time was trying to pay his bills by putting up with some people that didn't appreciate that photography was his art form (which has since evolved into painting as well). Allan and I would sit and talk for hours about life and we would spend our time laughing and not really even working at all. He would tell me how exhausting it was to shoot these glamour shoots for people because it was just so fucking boring. Here comes another hot girl with a giant ego that just wants pictures screaming look at me I'm so fucking hot so they could leave and post them. I understood Al, what it feels like to be trapped, doing something you don't even really want to do because you have to because I was very much in the same position. I loved to gogo dance, it was fun and energetic, I got paid to go to clubs and just dance my little heart out and have a great time, but I had already finished my masters degree by that time and was so ready to have more in life. We were in theory bonding over a shared experience of being in one place in life while relentlessly working to get to another not really knowing how to make that work. The scary lost place where you're not sure you can ever get to where you want to be because it seems impossible. I asked him what he wanted to do, what inspired him, and he said he just wanted to do weird shit (cont..)
