최근까지 연락을 자주하는 사이는 아니였지만, 제가 한국 가요계에 발을 딛은 후에, 가장 인상적인 선배가수이자 동료가 종현이가 아닐까.. 생각이 드네요. 가수를 꿈꾸고 준비하던 시기에 "샤이니"라는 그룹은 가장 인기 많고 우려보던 선배님들이였습니다. 데뷔후에 우연히 사적인 자리에서 인사를 나누게 됬는데, 저에게 너무 큰 인상을 남겨줬던 친구입니다. 높은 위치에 있는 선배 뮤지션인데도 데뷔한지 2년밖에 되지않는 한참 후배인 저에게 너무 친절하고, 겸손하면서 호탕하게 "친구인데 무슨 선배냐, 편하게 지내자" 라고 말했던 그에게 너무 놀라고 너무 고마웠습니다. 뮤지션으로서는 물론, 텃세 없는 그가 너무나 멋있고, 닮고 싶었죠.. "종현아! 미안한데 여기 보육원에 왔는데, 애들이 너 팬이래~ 통화 좀 해줄 수 있어?" 라는 저의 문자에, "그럼~ 당연하지~ 아무때나 전화줘~"라고 대답해주기도 했습니다.

천부적인 예술적 재능과 끊이지 않는 노력외에도 인성마저 너무 좋았던 친구였던 것 같습니다. 저보다 더 가까운 지인분들이 많겠지만, 그가 얼마나 인간적이고 마음도 참 따듯한 사람이였는지, 조심스럽게 이야기 하고 싶었습니다.

고인의 명복을 빕니다. -

I have't been in contact for quite a while, but he is a fellow musician that gave me a lasting impression after I decided to pursue music. "SHINee" was a group with immense fame and popularity at the time that I was preparing to become a singer. I happened to meet him at a private gathering and he left an unforgettable impression on me. Though he was already a star, he was kind, humble and friendly. I was thankful to him, wished to be more like him and was proud to call him a friend.

I sent a text to him, "Jonghyun! Sorry but I'm here at an orphanage. The kids are huge fans of yours. Can you talk a little bit with them?" "Of course! No problem. Call me any time" was his answer.

Not only was he born with pure artistic talent, he never stopped to work hard with a naturally kind heart. There are many friends that were closer to him, but I wanted to say how good a person and warm-hearted he was.

May he be in a better place where he can rest in peace.
