It feels surreal to sit here with Ru pulling at my hair, a year since I sat in this exact spot with her in my tummy. This was one of my only nearby places to escape to and feel a part of the world again when I finally got gate leave while on bed rest for several weeks in RNS Hospital. Living on the Maternity Ward has been one of my most challenging chapters of the past year, hearing newborn babies cry metres away while I was desperately trying to keep "barely viable" Ru inside with steroids, antibiotics, daily scans and constant CTG. I prayed for her to be a tough cookie, but really knowing her (and her strengths) now it all makes sense. I just wish I'd known it then, to be able to enjoy that part of the ride. ?
