The past few moons I’ve been thinking more about where Maddie’s food come from. How we feed our beloved friends meat daily yet we’re disconnected from the process...it’s happening in some far off factory, not really effecting our daily life, so we don’t have to think much about the animals that gave their life to provide for another.

For myself I’ve been choosing to eat less meat recently and when I do I wanna be able to shake the farmers hand. Someone who cared and understood. It’s easy to become disconnected to the Earth these days, the cycle of life, the balance of giving and receiving. Especially in a time when cities are expanding and most of us don’t grow our own food.

So this is why I choose to stomp around the Tennessee woods with Maddie hunting squirrels. I want to be a part of the cycle of life directly. To own what it takes to give life and then give thanks.

I ain’t trying to convince anyone of much of anything. This is just my way, it doesn’t need to be yours. Maybe you’ll choose to grow sweet potatoes for your pup this year, or buy more thoughtful kibble, or stomp around the woods yourself.

My only encouragement is to reconnect with the Earth in a deeper way this year. It’s been so good for me ✨
