Asian and Asian-American heritage is still underrepresented in our industry and I would like to push for acceptance and inclusion. According to Pew Research, the U.S. Asian population grew 72% between 2000 and 2015 (from 11.9 million to 20.4 million), the fastest growth rate of any major racial or ethnic group. There’s a significant population of Asian ethnicities in America, and Asian race is number one fastest growing minority race in the country; yet it’s extremely rare to see one of us on the cover of any major American publications. I was told that the last cover star of Asian descent for Allure was Lucy Liu ten years ago, back in 2008. I am honored to be alongside two beautiful and unique Asian models to have this cover, and hope this is a push for diversity in representation in years to come.
