This is a perfect comprehensive dipiction of why it is so important to not shave down double coated dogs. ?
As a groomer, I often get asked (especially during the summer months) to shave down dogs with packed in undercoat. The owners reasoning is always that the dog becomes over heated. Instead of shaving the dog which is much easier and timely I love the take the time to educate the owner why not to shave. Most often the owner is understanding and thankful for the education but everyone an then I get that one who just doesn’t seem to care and doesn’t want to deal with the fur. And to them I say good-bye. I can’t help someone who doesn’t get it or refuses to do what’s best for their pet. Taking the time to brush out your dogs undercoat during the summer will help with the overheating. This should be done about once a week. DONT SHAVE.
