Cat mom here ??‍♀️.... Yesterday, in response to our story, I was asked by numerous people how I got Monk. So, I decided to share in a post for any new friends who don’t know the back story of Monk. (WARNING: LONG POST) ??⤵️ . In 2006, my Dad died of brain cancer. A few months later a close friend of mine died in a plane crash. A year after that I had a horrible car wreck that left me with a broken back. I was in the thick of grief and drowning in depression. I was also in pain management for my back injury and was receiving procedures regularly (epidurals, nerve blocks, radiofrequency... yada yada). ?? . On September 29th 2010, while on my way home from one of my many procedures, a tiny black kitten darted in front of the car. My mother was driving and I was still groggy from being under anesthesia that day. We pulled over, got out and found that the tiny kitten ran underneath the car. He was skin and bones. His eyes were infected and sealed shut with crust. He was covered in filth and bugs. Without hesitation we put him in the car and brought him home. I estimated him to be about 4-6 weeks old. He was bathed, fed and taken to the vet the next day. At first I was planning to find him a home, but as each day passed I realized he was sent to me. It was a #divinealignment. He helped heal my heart. ♥️ . Originally Monk was named Sergio, after the Surgi-center where I was coming from the day I found him. However, as he grew healthier and stronger his personality started to flourish. He was CRAZY. He climbed everything and swung from all the things. His energy, curiosity and mischievousness was endless. So his name was quickly changed to Monkey, Monk for short. ? . To answer another common question, Monk was not born with fangs. When I rescued him he did NOT have those ferocious pearlies. In fact, he was missing some teeth due to malnourishment. It wasn’t until he was around one year old that he became a silky #vampirecat ??‍♀️ . I think it’s important to share stories like this to show just how powerful the love of an animal/animals is. They give so much and yet ask for so little. #whorescuedwho . *I’ll share Bean’s story in the next post. #staytuned ??
