Milla's account has been a bit quiet lately and I wanted to give you an update on her health. For the past 3 months, Milla has been experiencing several health issues and we are still trying to figure out exactly what is going on with her. Initially we believed it to be airborne allergens that was causing her severe dry skin, ear infections and respiratory issues. In January she started immunotherapy along with an Atopica and antihistamine. For a few weeks things appeared to be getting better, but soon after other issues began to develop. She began losing her fur, paws began to dry out and crack, respiratory issues became more prominent and was very lethargic.
She has had several visits with her main veterinarian, dermatologist and now internal medicine in the past few months. Last week we rushed her to the hospital as she began to have some sort of bacterial skin rash along with large patches of fur loss. During this visit a bacterial culture was submitted along with a skin biopsy by her dermatologist. In the same day she was sent to Internal Medicine for an abdominal ultrasound.

The bacteria collected showed a highly antibiotic resistant strain of staph bacteria (Staphylococcus Pseudintermedius) from the sample. Fortunately we were given a safe, topical antibiotic called Mupirocin, to help treat this. She is also taking Doxycycline and Entederm cream for her skin treatment.
Internal medicine’s ultrasound results showed some issues within her small intestinal wall. In order to know exactly what it is, Milla will need to undergo an endoscopy (a procedure in which a small camera is introduced into the body to view her small intestines) this week. Those results will give us critical prognostic and treatment information. As of right now, Milla could possibly have an inflammatory disease or worst case scenario, low grade Lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes). Due to whatever is happening in her small intestines, her immune system is very low causing all of these skin issues to surface.

We are also still waiting on Milla’s skin biopsy results, which we should be receiving any day now. (Continued in comments) 😺
