Behind my mom is a poster for the book she raced to finish before she lost all her words. Over her shoulder is a painting of me she did when I was in high school. She still paints sometimes but the decades she spent as a writer are just a memory she no longer has. Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month is almost over but I’ll be joining the @alzassociation in fighting to #ENDALZ every day until this ugly disease that has stolen the memories & lives of over 5 million Americans is forgotten.

My grandfather suffered from Alzheimer disease. He passed away in 2005. His Mother and Aunt did too. Now my Grandmom is suffering from dementia. Nothing sadder than seeing a person you love slowly slip away and forget themselves, you, and where they are. So sorry to hear that you and your family are all being affected by this disease. Thank you for joining the fight for a cure.

Thank you for speaking out about the disease that slowly and hideously stole my grandfather from us. We need to solve this and we are close! I have donated, I donated again and I will continue to do so until this is all just a bad memory (but a memory that we will ALL be allowed to keep). You’re wonderful and generous for sharing such a personal story. Thank you!!!

Hey Ben, thank you for posting this. My mom was diagnosed with early-onset in 2015 at 61. She went into a home last June. We do the Walk for Alzheimer's here in Edmonton and have been a part of the support groups through our local Alzheimer's association. I appreciate you bringing this disease to so many people that think it's just an 'old person' disease.

Thank you for sharing! Your mom is beautiful and her story is very important. Alzheimer’s, dementia, etc are really difficult and scary diseases (experienced it with a close one to me about 10 years ago). We really need a cure or good treatment to slow or stop the progression. Thank you for your work on #endalz !! ?

@benmfeldman would it be ok with you if I put a decal of your mother’s name on the hood in my car. I’m going to start putting names of friends and family whose got loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s. It would be an honor to have your mothers name added to that list. 💜#EndAlz

Thank you. A million times thank you. Understanding the reach Alzheimer’s has is crucial in its defeat. We can’t keep pretending it’s just inevitable. Explaining to my grandma who I was everyday for the last 3 years of her life was heart wrenching.
