It’s like the fish inherently KNOW it’s me and the little brats stick up their noses and refuse to take my bait out of pure spite. “It’s HIM,” they mutter disdainfully as they give my lure a wide berth. 🎣 As a kid, it was always that way. The folks in the boats next to me would haul in one trophy bass after another while I helplessly looked on, seething with envy. If I had to guess, I’d say the people next to me caught 30 fish or more. I didn’t have to guess how many fish I caught... precisely zero. And so I’d cast out my line with disgust and spend the rest of the afternoon glaring coldly at the world from behind my sunglasses, silently cursing the lake and every blessed fish in it. 🎣 I realize now, I didn’t know what I was doing. I was probably throwing the wrong lure at the wrong time of day, per the wrong weather conditions. But come on. I was 10 years old. All I wanted was to catch one, ya know?? Just one! Even a small one, it didn’t even matter! Never happened. 🎣 Well, my friends, today that all changed. Today, by some supernatural alignment of the sun, the moon and the Milky Way, the fish came running. It was like every largemouth in the lake received a notification that I had arrived. They showed up in mobs, they crowded in from everywhere, they threw themselves at my spinnerbait, shouting “me next! me next!” It was like they felt sorry for me. I put my feet up, tilted my cap back on my head and reeled em in like a pro tournament bass fisherman. One after another. I couldn’t believe it. “But I’m the guy who can’t catch a fish to save his life,” I kept saying to myself. But there they were. Actual fish. And who was catching them?? Me. 🎣 The true sign of a good day of fishing is what they call “bass thumb.” Largemouth have very tiny teeth and when you lip one fish after another, your thumb starts to feel like sandpaper. This is a good thing. You WANT bass thumb. Bass thumb means you’re catching fish. If a guy tells you he caught dozens of bass, check his thumb. 🎣 Well, my friends, today was a first for me. Today, I finally caught a whole bunch of fish. 🎣 I finally got bass thumb. 🎣 Today was a beautiful day.」7月1日 23時58分 - owlcityofficial
