Remix always looks like a tough 💪🏼 ruggedly handsome dog, but little known fact is he HATES thunderstorms and will get really anxious with the loud thunderclaps 🌩⚡️. Living in Florida, you can only imagine how it gets during the stormy summer season. Remix starts shaking, whining, and keeps his humans up all night until the loud sounds stop.
Does you dog get like this, too? We just had a string of serious thunderstorms here in Miami so thought we’d share some tips on how to calm your dog in these moments.
1️⃣ Try to be home with your dog during the storms. An anxious dog home alone will only make them more anxious.
2️⃣ Provide a safe place for your pup to go during the storm. Remix likes being under blankets (like in this vid).
3️⃣ Provide some fun distractions like playing with toys inside.
4️⃣ Don’t punish your dog for being afraid. This is oddly common.
Do you have tips that work for you? Let us know!

My childhood mini schnauzer (Einstein) would get very upset during storms and fireworks, he would hide behind the toilet. I guess he thought that was the safest place! Remix reminds me of him, so I love your posts and look forward to seeing him. We found that getting a mild tranq from the vet was the best course for our little Einstein, that way he could at least calm down and not go through the stress every 4th of July.

We try to drown out the noises with music/tv/movies—it helps with the quieter ones! Luckily we don’t live somewhere with thunder or even much rain, but Bailey is scared of it all including loud raindrops. For the Fourth of July fireworks...only xanax helps, and even that doesn’t help it completely, just takes the edge off the softer ones ?

I swear by sound baths and always recommend them for anxious pups. ? You can find them on YouTube. They're basically sounds in soothing frequencies and which are used in the meditation process. Turn up the sound for your pup, or play it on your phone and place it near him at a discernible volume and you will notice a difference. ?

Our mini Schnowzer gets the same way- we have a “thunder jacket” it’s light weight and Velcro’s around his body to hold him snugly - he has cbd treats- also a light prescription from his vet if it’s going to be a particularly bad storm - and we watch the weather closely and make sure to be with him during any big storms!

I actually get that way when there are windstorm and the trees creek outside. Back in 2015, a neighbor's tree fell on our home and just missed killing our grandson. Our daughter (who is also our guardian angel) was watching out for us that morning, that's for sure!

I live in Aventura, it’s been horrible lately. I put Oliver’s Thunder Shirt and it helps a bit. He’ll get under the covers and next to me and I always put the volume up on the tv to muffle the thunder. I also massage him so he can feel secure.... It helps... ??
