Hi Vogue, please can you ask the design house featured and highlighted, those including @isabelmarant, @albertaferretti and @loewe where they source their crochet pieces from, what the pay structure is and ask whether they can guarantee the working conditions of the persons making these pieces are safe. Crochet cannot be done by machine. It is made by hand and is generally very exploitative. I look to you @vogue and @edward_enninful to be showing ethical working practices in the pages of your magazine

I find it disturbing that @britishvogue and @edward_enninful have not found time to answer @daughterofashepherd's questions above. The crochet industry is highly exploitative and problematic, and it is important that a prominent publication as Vogue make their stand in relation to this clear. The lack of answers indicate that ethical production within fashion is something Vogue sees as irrelevant, I sincerely hope this is not the case.

It’s very beautiful, but have you asked the couture houses how much the workers who made these garments were paid? Crochet cannot be done by machine, the fabric has to be made by hand with a small hook and fine cotton thread. Those trousers would probably take one worker about a week (at least) to make. I hope they are adequately paid and have clean, safe working conditions.

Crochet can only ever be handmade but that does not always mean a fair rate of pay for those makers and safe and clean conditions for them to work in. Ask the couture houses for the truth regarding wages for the crocheters and their working conditions.

It is beautiful and skilled work. And can only have been hand-made. Have you assured yourselves, and can you assure me, that the craft-workers who made these are adequately paid for their skills and that they work in safe and clean environments?
