Yes to all of this! 💯 The live-action reboot of Disney’s “Little Mermaid” has found its princess of the sea. Singer Halle Bailey, who is one-half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, is set to star as Ariel in the new film. The 19-year-old songstress had been a top choice for director Rob Marshall from the get-go, according to the publication. “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” Marshall, whose credits include 2002’s “Chicago” and last year’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” said in a statement. It feels like Disney is including POC just to be inclusive. I want representation but I dont want a hand out. If a role is white let them be white, asians by asians, gays by gays, trans by trans. Do I think she'll be good? Yes, I have no doubts about that. But instead of slapping POC on title films to be inclusive why not write an original film that can include us. Oh wait this is Disney, they are never original.

The problem here is the little mermaid is based off a Danish fork tale. Based off her beautiful red hair. In this case this princess was a big thing for little girls with red hair and freckles. I know a couple of friends that were ecstatic to see a princess with red hair! This beautiful girl is probably very talented, but i have to disagree with the casting on this as well 🤷🏽♀️.

Honestly who cares what color skin a Disney mermaid has. I don't see why people hate her being cast as a fictional character in a movie that's just being made so Disney can make more money lol.

I grew up on the original Disney Little Mermaid and she is going to be a PERFECT Ariel. I'm so happy that girls today can see an Ariel with red hair AND and Ariel with locks ❤🖤

Someone told me that there was a controversy about Halle Berry playing the little Mermaid. Interesting conversation But, this makes more sense. The news should clear this up.
