To the stranger hiding behind a private account who said, as a punchline to an otherwise very sweet message, that they feel sorry for my new dog: Ugh. Just....ugh. Whatever you've imagined about me, my life, and where I'm at in my (very personal) grief, you're wrong. But I don't owe you anything, and I'm certainly not obligated to fill in the blanks for you. I just hope you got whatever you hoped to get from that comment. It certainly wins the title of "The most hurtful words I've received since announcing the death of my beloved Gracie."
To the rest of you: Say hi to Peggy Sue aka Peggy aka OHMIGOSH PEGGY STOP BITING MY HAIR!!!
Peggy is a small standard poodle.
She'll be 12 weeks old on Sunday.
And it hurts a bit to say this, but she's had more goodness poured into her these past few weeks than Gracie EVER did in our earliest days together.
When I brought home Gracie, very much on a whim, I didn't have a clue—not just about how to care for a dog, but how to care for myself. And the only part of me that was ready was my heart.
Lucky for me, her heart was, too. And she forgave me my shortcomings for the next decade and a half. (Continued in the comments....)

I’ve lost many a beloved pets through my lifetime and with all the love and attention you give your present pup you will be rewarded with glimpses of the same exact happiness you shared with Gracie. As far as that hurtful remark I’ve found that by being affected so strongly by others ignorance there is always a lesson to be learned that can help us to be stronger and move forward. But she was my life, my heart... she passed away a month ago and i been trying to make sense of my grief and all the feelings that pass through me.
