The lungs of the planet are on fire right now!! 🔥 🚨 The Amazon rainforest has been burning for weeks but has received almost no news coverage. When Notre-Dame burnt, billionaires and politicians emptied their pockets but when the most important ecosystem on earth is on fire we turn a blind eye. The world’s greatest cathedral is burning and there’s no rebuilding this one!!! 😢 Please help spread awareness. #prayforamazonia First 📷 by @mohsinkazmitakespictures

“Cattle ranching is the largest driver of deforestation in every Amazon country, accounting for 80% of current deforestation rates.”
- Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
Brazil is the second largest producer of hides. There are no laws requiring leather to be labelled with where it has come from, and often labels are deceptive (Italian leather often just means leather tanned in Italy, not that the cow was raised and slaughtered there)
If we want to protect the Amazon, we need to move away from animal products ❤️

When Notre-Dame burnt, it happened in an European country, where they care. The fires in the Amazon rainforest are not important for the politicians in Brazil. We all know well enough that the government doesn't care at all. How come that when I'm from a Latin American country, neighbor of Brazil haven't heard any politician talking about it?

Can someone please explain this further to me? How much of the rainforest is burning? I’m currently in Australia where they have lots of forest fires but usually nature can regrow and the fire can sometimes even stimulate new growth. Would this be the case with the amazon? Or is this causing irreversible damage?

The Amazon is on fire. Our Minister of the Environment speaks in fake news and sensationalism. The president says NGOs may be behind this!!! Lack of commitment to the truth is a chronic pathology. This irresponsible attitude only aggravates the environmental emergency in Brazil

Can you please mention how these fires are started illegally and on purpose to clear land for livestock - to profit the meat industry? This is a great post but also would like people to know it's not a freak (or now normal) of nature for the most part!! #actionforamazonia

I believe that, despite suffering a huge economic crisis, nations should stop buying Brazilian products and explicitly stating it’s due to the lack of government decisions on the environment. This would be the most powerful action one could take right now
