🌀As Hurricane Dorian continues its move towards land, satellite missions from NASA and @NOAA are keeping an eye on the storm from space. After brushing past Puerto Rico, the storm began intensifying over open waters. On Aug. 29, forecasters noted: “Strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane on Friday, and remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through the weekend.” Seen here is a composite image of the strengthening storm from the GOES-16 satellite. This simulated natural color image comes from the weather satellite’s Advanced Baseline Imager. GOES-16 is operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NASA helps develop and launch the GOES series of satellites.
