My driver died, my gunner lost his hand, and I sustained multiple injuries and almost lost my leg. I had to pick up my friends’ burned body parts. PTSD attacks can be half an hour or eight hours – Luna warns me and signals that I need to breath. I currently don’t know where my car is but I can tell Luna to take me to my car. She’s one of the only things I recognize during an attack. When I get disconnected I don’t recognize my parents. Until two years ago having an assistance dog in Israel was not possible. You had to get an ADI certificate abroad. If you look at the United States you have 130 dogs working for a hospital, 10 at a time. The suicide rate among veterans with PTSD is increasing, so we’re working to train more service dogs and educate people. Today we’re working with children on the spectrum and with physical conditions. At the hospital clinics you can have all of the state of the art tech, like VR, and it costs millions of shekels.
