When I went to carnival in Rio one year, like I try to do every year, I went to my usual spot but guess who I found? Gisele! I could not believe it. It was her first carnival. The incredible energy that the carnival has, with its millions of people and the drums of the samba, gets everyone get in the mood of party and hysteria. I just had to shoot and shoot. I could not stop photographing her love for life. She was beyond herself with happiness. When I did my book on Rio, called MaRio de Janeiro Testino, I had to put her on the cover.

Cuando fui al carnaval de Río un año, como intento hacer todos los años, fui a mi lugar habitual, ¿y adivinen con quién me encontré? ¡Con Gisele! No lo podía creer. ¡Y era su primer carnaval! La energía que tiene el carnaval, con millones de personas bailando y los tambores de la samba, es increíble; hace que todos se pongan de humor de fiesta e histeria. Yo solo tenía que tomar y tomar fotos. No podía dejar de fotografiar la forma que tiene Gisele de disfrutar la vida. Ella estaba más allá de sí de felicidad. Cuando hice mi libro sobre Río, llamado MaRio de Janeiro Testino, tuvo que ser la portada.
