This photo was taken by @vanityfair in 2008 for a story on “the new guard” (link in my stories). I was honored to be included then and have so many memories of this time we all shared as young designers in NYC. Zac personally inspired me when I was just a design student at Parsons. His wunderkind status as a 21 year old super star upstart gave me the courage to start my own line right out of school. Over the years, Zac was always very generous with advice and kindness. We were seated next to each other at the @cfda @voguemagazine fashion fund awards the year I was a finalist. I was disappointed when I was not announced as one of the winners, and Zac whispered just the right words of encouragement to me at just the right moment. It’s wild to see how many of us in this photo have moved onto our second acts. With @barneysny closing, it does feel like the end of an era, one I was so grateful to be a part of.
