These two bull elephants were having a little bit of fun sparring with one another during an evening outing in Amboseli. While at times it looked like the intensity was rising, they would disengage from one another as if they knew how to keep it from escalating into something more serious. Real battles by bull elephants are full of raw power and emotion as the sound of trumpeting and clashing tusks echo across the open grasslands. I have personally never witnessed a true fight for mating rights, but from watching many practice rounds, I can only imagine how fierce and powerful it could be.
