And yes, I am very aware that these recent events to which I refer are neither isolated nor new.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ While I do not normally use my platform to jump in on such topics, I recognize that I do have a platform and with that comes a level of responsibility to you, my community. There will surely be criticism of this post... the nature of it, the content within it, and the timing of it. To be honest, I am in disbelief of what I am seeing and find it sickening. It’s not always easy to determine how to use your platform in ways that are sensitive, productive, and positive. However, I do know that silence is not the answer.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ No one expects another social post or hashtag to change the system. But social media can be a powerful vehicle to shed more light on the issue and disseminate information to help combat the atrocities that continue to take place and do our part to prevent them from happening again. With that being said, I am turning comments off on this post and encourage you to use the time and energy you may have spent commenting towards something productive that might actually leave an impact: contact lawmakers, take the census, vote.
