I’ve never felt qualified to talk about this topic because I’ve had the privilege of growing up in Australia. But at this point, silence feels like betrayal and it feels wrong not to use the breath I do have to say something. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve never had to worry about being shot while going for a run, nor worry about my family members making it home. However, though I live somewhere different I don’t look any different and that’s a scary reality to think about. I don’t want to add to the noise or make you pity me, I know I’m not a victim. But I do want to compel you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Compel you to change, to think twice about making that racist joke or using the n word, to stop assuming every black person is a refugee, to stop saying “I’m not racist, I have a black friend”, to think about how you raise your children, to think about the world we’re all living in and if you’re happy with the contribution you make to it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don’t have the answers to solving this issue (if you have any practical and useful ideas please comment below), but I know for sure that #ivehadenough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So this is my question to you: when the time comes, what will you do?」5月31日 14時27分 - ohyeahnaa
