These are the words of Breonna Taylor and today would have been her 27th birthday. But she won't be able to celebrate because she was murdered, when a team of plainclothes Louisville police officers arrived to execute a no-knock warrant early in the morning of March 13. When police broke into the apartment, her boyfriend, a licensed gun owner, thought they were being robbed, grabbed his weapon and shot an officer in the leg. The officers returned fire, shooting dozens of times, killing Taylor. "Even in being a prosecutor, I'd never quite seen that many bullets in one apartment," says Lonita Baker, a personal injury attorney representing Taylor's family. The two suspects that police were looking for were already in police custody.
