I find that I’m ignorant on the subject of racism in ways that are arrogant & oppressive to black people . I’m eradicating this . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I look around and see that most of my white friends and colleagues share this trait . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A sort of smugness that varies in tone from a knowing , patronizing “ but you know I’M not racist right ? “ to flat out “ there’s no racism here “ insanity . It makes me sick . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m so sorry . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I found a good podcast from Yale on slavery and listened to a few episodes , somehow the subject of slavery and our willful ignorance of it ,its stain on our national character ,keeps coming up at the root of this . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How the fuck did we allow ourselves to do that to other people for so long ? What , in our collective decency got us to abolish that evil? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to find that spark of righteousness , of simple morality . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m going to learn as much as I can 📖 I hope that my cart gives you some of your own ideas , to form your own opinions .
