Usually anything bright piques my interest which is how I first discovered Gillian Ayres. The colours of her paintings in a display at Tate Britain caught the corner of my eye in a room full of 19th century landscapes and bronze sculptures. The day before the galleries closed I took a last walk through Tate Britain and I was stopped again by this painting in a different gallery.
