When schools are closed, children miss out on more than learning. For the most vulnerable children, going to school can mean one guaranteed meal a day, time with friends, and reduced risk of violence, child labour, child marriage and pregnancy. There is no known evidence on the correlation between the rate of #COVID19 transmission and whether or not schools remain open or closed. Yet evidence on the negative impacts of school closures on children’s learning, safety, health and wellbeing is overwhelming. Countries must prioritize schools in their reopening plans and the best interest of every child must be paramount.
