For every one of those deaths it is estimated 30 people will attempt suicide and 89% of people know at least one person who has attempted suicide. We cannot let this go on. Feeling isolated or disconnected is among the many reasons people can commit suicide. Asking the question “are you okay?” And investing more time in the people around you can reduce these feelings and increase someone’s sense of belonging. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone (I also say that for myself) which makes it even more important than ever for us all to stay connected. Sometimes for someone to know you are there could be all that they need. If you see signs of someone struggling, notice a difference or simply have a feeling something is not right, trust your instinct and reach out. Just remember before you can support others, you need to look out for yourself... Sometimes you might not be the right person to take on such a job and if you are unable to offer as much help as you want to, that’s also ok- I’ve added some ideas into these images on how you can prepare yourself before and after reaching out to someone in need. Also, some conversations are too big for family or friends to take on alone, check out the link I’m putting up in my bio and on insta stories for a whole list on other ideas on where to get additional support.
