From California and Oregon to Siberia and Australia, massive fires around the globe have consumed millions of acres this year and have spawned fire-generated tornados, fire-induced thunderstorms, and other phenomena rarely seen before. These fires are behaving in unprecedented ways, journalist and fire expert Ed Struzik writes in @YaleEnvironment360, and the traditional methods of fighting them are proving inadequate.⁠
“As fires grow larger and become more intense, fire management will be even more challenging,” said one scientist. “Traditional fire management and suppression may be reaching their limit in terms of effectiveness.”⁠
