Robert Capa's work in the Saar features in the photographer's retrospective show now on at The Ludwig Galerie Saarlouis, in Germany.

Sent by the French magazine “VU“, Capa (then working under the name André Friedmann) went to Saarland with their correspondent Gorta to capture the atmosphere shortly before the Saar vote on January 13, 1935.

For the first time, four photographs of this report are shown together with the two magazine articles that were published in November 1934.

The exhibition, comprising around 100 works, shows a selection of Capa’s photographs of war as well as his portraits, including those of his friends and fellow artists Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.
