“This photograph was taken in 1974 on one of the first rolls of film I ever exposed. As a university art student in the city, coming from a large rural family of eight children, I enjoyed going home almost more than anything else. I’d load some of my five younger sisters into a car and drive around, looking for abandoned farmhouses. In these unofficial museums with letters, clothing, and photographs scattered over the floor, we’d imagine ourselves living in a different time and place.” – Larry Towell
