"Dennis spent much of the late 1950s and '60s photographing the incredible artists and individuals, as well as broader cultural and counter-cultural movements, that changed the United States for ever. Among these many sources of inspiration, Dennis felt a particular affinity with African American musicians, especially jazz musicians. Dennis’s father had adored jazz and used to take him to Harlem jazz clubs when he was just a small child. That’s when Dennis developed a love for the music. He used to joke that he had grown up in Harlem jazz clubs." – Susan Richards, Estate of Dennis Stock
