Photo by @daviddoubilet / Blacktip sharks patrol the shallow reefs at sunset over the South Pass at Fakarava Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in French Polynesia. The productive coral reef and lagoon system here support 700+ gray reef and blacktip sharks, one of the densest populations of sharks on the planet. The smaller blacktips favor the shallows by day, and the gray reef sharks gather in distinct groups in the depths.
