By morning, I’d progressed from 10 minute intervals quickly to 2 minutes between contractions. It came so fast, and I was so scared of having this baby in the car unattended. I didn’t have time for a Covid test, or to brush my teeth, or put on my grandmother’s medallion like I’ve done in the past to keep me safe. My OB didn’t make it either, but they don’t usually (2/6 in our experience). The nurses continue to be heroes. My water broke after a couple of contractions once I got the gown on, and Nikolas was born in one good push. Postpartum looks different for a lot of women. Recovery has been a bear for me this time around, I can only attribute that to my age and an infection onset 24 hours after his birth. It’s been 11 days an nights of delicious delirium, pain, fatigue, tears of every kind, messes, diapers (adult and baby) laughter, joy and complete and total gratitude. No glamour. Just perfect. P.S. If I can deliver a child unmedicated in a mask, you can wear one in public establishments. Pretty please. P.P.S.
