Rangers like him literally put their lives on the line to protect and care for these animals every day. Thanks to their work and investment in the local communities, @lewa_wildlife has not lost a single rhino to poaching in five years. Ranger units have significantly improved the security of wildlife and people in the neighboring areas.The conservancy today is home to 14% of Kenya's rhinos.

Unfortunately, right now, communities like this one are struggling because of the pandemic, which has caused tourism to vanish. The threat to their livelihoods and to nature grows ever greater. All over Africa, conservationists have reported an increase in illegal bushmeat hunting, and they fear organized poaching of rhino horn and ivory could be next.
