My favorites late nights at the comedy store involved moments with him. I would leave my family, drive over there late at night not knowing what to expect and Jeff was always a comfort in the corner sipping his drink at the piano. I loved hearing him laugh at places where no one else would. You knew Jeff was with you in silly moments, odd moments, stuff that other people didn’t get. He had seen it all but was still in the moment, it was always new. Even when it’s old hat, it was new and that was the beauty. But he wasn’t just jolly, it was the knowing, the sarcasm, world weary mixed with child like joy. The person you want off to the side witnessing your set.
