New day in America. Some will say cynically that today means nothing - that it’s fake, that it’s empty. They miss the target. It’s true that symbolism isn’t policy. The work remains to be done. But that work is born of perspective. Perspective is reflected in these sounds. Howard University’s band escorted alum Kamala Harris to the WH today. My late mom was Howard U School of Law class of ‘63, the only woman to graduate that year. She once said Kamala would be the first female POTUS. We’ll see. Regardless, this is the first time an HBCU graduate has made this walk on Inauguration Day. That doesn’t guarantee outcomes, but these rhythms echo in the office now - not to the exclusion of any others - but these factor in the institutional thinking now at the highest level, as they should.
