Most of the girls wore some version of a black dress to look as thin, chic and conforming as possible. I have been this “black dress” girl many times in my life and will be her again I’m sure but at my most authentic, joyful self, I’m the pink tutu gal. Did I fit in? Nope! Did I get made fun of? You bet! But learning early on that these experiences didn’t permanently break me, gave me the courage to keep being me. I am now surrounded by people who know and love the REAL me, and I wouldn’t trade that (or the scars or the tutu) for anything- and especially not for another black dress.
