Linda Evangelista was the first top model I worked with. It was like a rite of passage to the industry, as in that time you were only a fashion photographer if you worked with the super models and no one was bigger than Linda. The girls ruled the market.
As we continued to work together, we started taking more risks. I have often said, hairdressers are essential to a picture and Julien D’ys is one of the most artistic of them all. I had always noticed that creating through hair styles came to him like painting or sculpting, so I asked him to do these series with Linda as a way of expressing all those artistic qualities. He did it all. Hair, makeup, every detail. It was just us, playing with the most famous model of the time and not just showing her personality, beauty and charm but transforming her into Julien’s creation.
