Stories poured out with the many bottles of wine, the delicious food creating murmers down the long table. At one point, after Christopher had said “DON’T TALK TO ME ABOUT SOUND OF MUSIC” (which of course we did), we asked him about Hamlet, specfically the “to be or not to be” speech. I was curious as to why the speech is often presented as two choices. “To be (1) or not to be “ (2). To suffer (1), or to take arms (2), and then... (I was in full pontification mode) it seemed to me... “to die” was a #3. Not at all related to one or two, but the third choice. To give up. To Die. To say “I don’t want to suffer and complain, nor do I want to go to war against these issues.... I’ll just give up and die. “ I drank more wine. Christopher, not at all interested in my diatribe (oof - me having never played Hamlet, ) simply said “Ahhhh. Yes. And then he did the first few lines, “To be, or not to be, that is the question: Whether ‘tis nobler in the MIND to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them. He hit the word “mind”, which I’d never heard before. “In the Mind”, he said again, looking at me. “How we view the world is from the MIND. Giving up never solved or helped anything.” SCENE! Thank you Christopher Plummer. You never gave up. You gave us all so many moments of happiness, insight, and discovery. Enjoy the next journey!」2月6日 4時43分 - mgh_8
