Work that shouldn’t have to be done, but still does, because bigotry, discrimination, injustice, ignorance and stubbornness still walk among us. Someday, our young people won’t need RainbowYOUTH but, for now, so many of them really do. They might need @RainbowYOUTH to help them escape an unsafe household or life on the streets; or to find support services and information for themselves and their whānau; or to provide safe drop-in spaces and community wardrobes; or to connect with social groups and online support; or the many other services that RainbowYOUTH provide.⁣ ⁣ When RainbowYOUTH reached out to us last July, I was astonished to learn just how much of a need for their services there is. The idea of a young person sleeping on the streets because their Rainbow identity makes them unwelcome at home is wrenching to me, as it should be to anyone. ⁣ ⁣ Several of my closest family are proudly on the Rainbow and, as a family, we wave the Rainbow flag with love and pride. I wish for the world to be one where all young people and their whānau are able to feel the same way and it breaks my heart that there are those who suffer with this for no good reason.⁣ ⁣ So, how members of the Rainbow community feel and are treated is very important and deeply personal to me. That’s why I wanted to expand on the work we started with @RainbowYOUTH last year with this @AucklandPride month’s project - the intention of which is to raise awareness around their work and money for their coffers. We’re grateful to our community who’ve come running fast to support @RainbowYOUTH by buying these products and we’re proud to be gifting to RainbowYOUTH all the profits from this project plus an additional 400% of that figure.
