I have been diving into a lot of fear around Doug’s inevitable aging. He is still acting his same happy energetic self, and is truly healthy and vibrant, but now that I’m seeing more little greys pop up on his muzzle a lot of anxieties come up about the future. A friend told me today to not ignore the fear or push it away, but invite it in and acknowledge it. Only then can we let it go. A sense of peace washed over me when I did this and immense gratitude came up. Dogs love us unconditionally through good days and bad days, and bring so much joy to us on a selfless level. Why do we feel fear when we could feel celebration? Celebration for the sheer fact that our souls found each other and that this little creature chose to spend their life as my companion. Celebration that we share a bond and a love so strong that this lifetime could not break it. Celebration that a being as incredible as a dog even exists. The tether we have to our pets is beyond anything we can comprehend, and I believe that they know that. Like people say, dogs are the only creature that loves their humans more than they love themselves. So today, I celebrate Doug and his cutie little whiskers.
