Once she found her groove Sophia quickly learned how to rock climb and mountaineer. Never looking back, she's completed dozens of impressive treks and climbs throughout the world. In 2006 she became the first African-American and Black woman to summit Mount Everest. Sophia has a passion for outdoor recreation, the environment, and protecting public lands. She is on the board of @NatureBridge, an organization that provides hands-on environmental education programs for students in national parks and is a Washington State Parks and Recreation Commissioner. Based in Seattle, she currently leads the international policy program in Global Sustainability at Boeing.
