I was however aware of the bad rep staffies had and wanted so badly for people to see just how loving they really were. Through sharing the boys silly personalities the page quickly grew and we connected with many other people around the world that shared our passion. The vision for the brand came from never being able to find cute clothes for staffies, it was if the dog clothing brands at the time thought that only chihuahuas and small fluffies were worthy of cute clothing. At the same time the only pictures you tended to see of staffies were all wearing choker chains and studded collars which I was convinced was contributing to the poor public perception of the breed. It became a pipe dream to make my own label for staffies and Pitbulls that made them look like the cute teddy bears we all know they are. I’d sit behind my desk in my finance job drawing clothes that I dreamed I could one day make a reality. After spending time being part of the dog community on Instagram, I started to learn about the world of rescue and just how many staffies were stuck in shelters. This is when I got really motivated to do something. We started out with the calendar which we’ve done now for 7 years, and in 2016 I finally decided to put my idea of making cute clothes for staffies to work whilst knowing that I would use the brand to also help rescue dogs. We sold our house in mid 2016 and put every cent we had into the brand. @darrenandphillip was born and since then we’ve dressed over 20,000 dogs all over the world and raised over $800K through our clothing sales, calendar and fundraising efforts. Every single purchase you make from our brand contributes to rescue dogs. 20% of the total profits we make BEFORE deductions goes straight to them. I get emotional thinking about it because it’s so surreal to be able to do something that really makes a difference to the dogs out there less fortunate than our own.
