Freddie Mercury by @beautybybrandong - When speaking to the NME in 1974, Freddie Mercury responded to a question about his sexuality with “I’m as gay as a daffodil, my dear!”. As funny as it sounds now, back in 1974, it was powerful coming just 7 years after the legalisation of homosexuality.   2. Barbara Gittings by @lxstv - Barbara Gittings was a US activist in the 60s and instrumental in stopping Homosexuality from being classified as a mental illness.   3.Gilbert Baker by @dominic_mua - Gilbert Baker was an American artist and designer of the Rainbow Pride flag in 1978 consisting of 8 colours but then shown with 6 colours. However, in 2019, a more inclusive 11 colour flag was created.   4. Marsha P Johnson by @muahlondon - Marsha P Johnson was a black trans-rights activist who played a big role in important moments for the community, such as the Stonewall protests.  5. Lisa Power by @hellomarlenn -Lisa Power MBE is a rights campaigner and cofounded The Pink Paper in 1987, an important newspaper governing gay and lesbian issues. It helped to connect LGBTQIA+ people before the raise of the internet.  6. Stormé Delaverie by @charlenewilliams_mua - Known as “the Rosa Parks of the gay community”, Stormé Delaverie’s passion and mistreatment by police allegedly sparked the Stonewall Rebellion.  7. Alan Turning by @mus.emin - Widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and AI, Alan Turning played a crucial role in cracking intercepted coded messages in WW2. It’s been estimated that this work shortened the war in Europe by more than two years and saved over 14 million lives.  8. Gay Liberation Front by @makeupby_mackenziee - The UK Gay Liberation Front existed between 1970–1973 and is the foundation of many LGBTQIA+ organisations known today.
