I was leaning down to pick it up when I saw an ant walking by and it was like whaaaaaat the lettuce? So I said it was cool and the ant proceeded to haul the lettuce away. I kinda thought it was too big and too heavy for an ant to move by itself, but this ant seemed determined, and so by all means, I sat back and let it get down to business. First, it tried pulling. It pulled from the front, and then from the sides. It put all six legs to work and pulled with all its might, but no luck. Then it tried pushing the lettuce from behind, and I was like, “I don’t know if that’ll work either.” But I could tell the ant was excited about the lettuce, and so I just kept quiet and let it concentrate. It tried and tried everything, pushing and pulling the lettuce every way it could think of, but it wouldn’t budge. I could tell the ant was so excited about the lettuce, it didn’t want to take no for an answer. It reallyyyy wanted that lettuce, to eat, or to store, or to show its buddies, or to do whatever ants do with lettuce, I’m not really sure. So all of this went on for a long time, the ant giving it everything it had, and I, offering encouragement and words of affirmation here and there. But by and by, the ant got tired and annoyed with the whole business and it gave up and sat down to stare at the lettuce and think. I was like, “hey, it’s okay my friend. You can’t win em all, ya know?” After a minute or two, the ant looked up at me, and then back at the lettuce. And then, as if the ant found a new sense of purpose, it got up, walked over to the lettuce, bit off a chunk, and walked away. I was proud. I stood up and was like, “Yeah!!!! There you go!! Nice work, my friend.” And then, as I sat back down to finish my lunch, I watched as the ant, carrying its chunk of lettuce, walked down the sidewalk, turned the corner, and disappeared out of sight.」7月12日 1時00分
