During quarantine was thinking about how video game missions are essentially a series of repetitive chores that we volunteer to accomplish, while avoiding our real life chores. Theoretically, we could link tasks in games to solving real world problems, the way you can enlist your computer to help crunch numbers for SETI’s alien life probe. Wouldnt it be neat, if every time you solved a puzzle or vanquished an enemy, it was generating energy or brute forcing code or running useful simulations/ remote controlling tractors and satellites and data collection on moral choices for the real world?
(Unfortunately they’ll probably just adapt it for piloting war drones, but a girl can dream of benevolent tech ergonomics.)
