Bringing together the Portuguese words “swingueira”—the name of the popular dance competition that inspired this work—and “guerra” (“war” in Portuguese), "Swinguerra" (2019) by Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca draws upon the clash between progressive and conservative values in Brazil.

Moving through the creative process, rehearsal routine, and performances of three competitive dance collectives at a dance competition in Recife, the two-channel film questions social categories of gender and sexuality and the political rights of marginalized groups in Brazil.
