To be frank its been an odd ride with many assuming it’s a glamorous, easy way of filling a life. I wish it were true. To be fair, this industry has afforded me a great many opportunities; travelling the world, meeting fascinating people and seeing many beautiful things. All very exciting in the beginning- but as life becomes more fast-paced, shiny, and fake, it becomes blatantly apparent that it does not mean very much- even though so many in the industry are judged solely on ’luxuries’, social media content and social circles. But any entertainer worth their salt will always be consistent regarding their skills, talent, learning and unlearning *constantly* What does this pre-amble have to do with what I’m posting about … well on Sunday I was announced as part of the Sunday Times A-listers of 2023 by @craigbjacobs alongside @thatninahastie @leratokganyago @ladynam_bm @naymaps @senzo_radebe @norma.mngoma I’m not entirely sure what got me onto this list (perhaps just a ton of learning and unlearning) but I am truly honoured. I guess what I am trying to convey is that I am thankful to be standing next to some of these individuals armed with talent, skills, perseverance, thick skin, and a whole lotta chutzpah. This night we spoke about how much the industry has evolved. How much joy and how much pain we have gained by putting our ‘sometimes-very-broken-selves’ out there. Here we stand in these pictures, not perfect, but just people practicing to be the best humans we can be, sometimes in-front of other humans who get to do that in private.」1月17日 23時06分
