I was 17 years old when I met Seymour and he was the first grown up to believe in me outside of my family. I met Seymour for the first time when I walked into his office at Sire Records at 75 Rockefeller Plaza with a demo from a rap group I produced called B.M.O.C.! He signed the group by the end of our meeting and gave me a production deal for Rat Records and asked me since I was a nice jewish boy if i would consider marrying his daughter Samantha. That was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. He even came to the screening of my first NYU student film and gave me great advice “Brett, I think you should stick to directing instead of producing rap records!” What a huge blessing…..Seymour was my kindred spirit not only because of our love of good nosh but because we shared the same Bar Mitzvah parsha, Shabbos Hagadol! I will never forget every time we’d meet we would chant our Bar Mitzvah parsha in unison. I will miss Seymour so much. He had the best ears in the music industry, the most sophisticated taste in art and antiques, wrote the greatest memo’s of all time, brilliantly funny, always laughing, had an encyclopedic knowledge of music, the best instincts for talent as well as having the biggest most generous and kindest heart of anyone I had ever met. He was such an inspiration not only to me but to so many, especially the ones he believed in and if he did it was for life and you felt it. Besides all of this he was the best father and grandfather. He loved his family more than anything, cherished his friends and relished in his yiddishkeit. Seymour was a Giant of a man a true legend and I feel honored to have called him a close friend and mentor. One thing that he really enjoyed was watching my Grandparents dance to Cuban music…… I am sure he is together with them now enjoying their dancing watching over all of us. G-d bless you Seymour. Love you always and forever. My heartfelt condolences to his family and especially Mandy who is the best daughter anyone could of ever had in life! Rest in Peace Seymour and thank you for bringing so much nachas to my life! בייה」4月3日 9時43分 - brettrat
